As far as fabrics go, it doesn't really get more sumptuous than velvet. Making a big impact on the A/W 16 catwalks back in February, this season velvet comes in an array of rich Autumnal hues. Ranging from Bordeaux to copper, midnight blue to mustard - these colours add an injection of 'on trend' style to your wardrobe whilst remaining sophisticated at the same time. Designers including: Haider Ackermann, Valentino, Alberta Ferretti and Prada sent models down the runway wearing both day wear and evening wear made from this luxe fabric, proving that velvet need not just be for evening attire. Some designers even went so far as adding embroidery for the ultimate high fashion look. See below for runway inspiration...
So how can you inject this seasonal fabric into your wardrobe? As we saw on the catwalk, luxury brands have majorly got on board with this trend - but it's not just ready to wear. You can shop velvet accessories just as readily with shoes and handbags being the number one choice. You can opt for full velvet styling or just a couple of pieces to add flair to your outfit. I have put together a selection of the best the luxury market has to offer. Go to designers - Marco de Vincenzo (for the best shoes), Saint Laurent and Altuzarra (for tailoring) and Maje (for affordable day-to-night dresses). Dare I even suggest these pieces would be great for Christmas?
Taking inspiration from these celebrities and fashion editors, see how you can style your velvet clothing to have maximum street style kudos. Layering velvet with oversized cotton shirts will create the ultimate sartorial statement!
