BET Awards 2015 - Red Carpet Review

The BET Awards took place last night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Celebrating African Americans in the field of entertainment, many big name stars took to the red carpet. Here is a review of the red carpet fashion.
Rihanna - Giorgio Armani / Ciara - Wes Gordon Fall 15
Zendaya - Nicolas Jebran / Christina Milian
Janelle Monae - SAFiYAA / Gabrielle Union - Halston Heritage Fall 15
Nicki Minaj - Givenchy / Kelly Rowland - Lever Couture
Brittany Daniel - Nicholas The Label / La La Anthony - Peter Pilotto
 Michelle Williams - Herve Leger

My favourite red carpet look was Zendaya wearing a silver crystal embellished shirt dress. Whatever she wears she pulls it off so well and I always look forward to seeing what daring outfit she will wear next.

New Designers 2015 - Review

Each year without fail June seems to come around so quickly, and for me this particular month always reminds me of how far I have come in my career since I graduated in June 2012. After completing my degree I was selected to exhibit at New Designers in London, followed by a 3 month stint living and interning in New York, I then returned to the UK and moved to London to start my first graduate job in the fashion industry.
I always like to go back to New Designers, which takes place at the Business Design Centre in Islington, to see the new graduates work and catch up with my University tutors. As a direct result of exhibiting at New Designers my work was featured on WGSN, Lin Morris and Amelia's Magazine - as a graduate it was so exciting to see my work being written about online. I decided to select some of my favourite work from this year's New Designers and share it with you, I hope all the designers enjoy this little feature on my blog.
Jessica Neville
Entitled 'Midnight Paradise' the use of colour in this collection is so on point! I found this collection be rich and sophisticated, and a strong drawing ability was clear to see meaning these designs have a real commercial potential. Also, can we just take a minute to appreciate how beautiful the  hummingbird painting is!
Izzy Dryburgh
The first thing that caught my eye about this 'Captured Nature' collection, was the juxtaposition between geometric shapes and floral forms. This interesting concept made for a great contemporary interiors collection. The bird and butterfly illustrations were exceptionally well drawn.
Rose Dufton
Eye-catching tropicals in a vibrant colour palette. I can really see these prints working well on silk scarves. I have noticed a lot of teal coming through from the new Resort 16 collections, so the teal passionflower print would work well for the coming season.
Victoria Heslop
I loved the experimental approach to textiles in this collection. Using a mix of traditional screen printing techniques along with digital elements, created a very striking collection. The brushstrokes and mark making led to interesting textures, and the layering of colour was strong.
Jessica Pickard
Inspired by the Islands of Penang and Lemnos, the drawings in this collection were highly detailed and realistic. The tile print was my favourite, the simplicity of the 2 colour print made a nice contrast against the other more intense prints in the collection.
Alice Greaves
My favourite childrenswear collection, as seen at New Designers, the garments were made using organic fabrics and water-based printing pigments. This was a collection of highly sophisticated conversational prints, with personal meaning behind the concept. I feel this collection offers something new to the target market.
Heather Riches
A highly commercial collection which would be perfect for childrenswear or the card and gift market. A fun and playful colour palette was very refreshing to see and perfectly complemented the theme.

Did you visit New Designers this year? If so, which designer caught your eye?

Most Loved - Louis Vuitton SS15

I have been a long time fan of Louis Vuitton, but ever since Nicholas Ghesquiere joined the brand last year I just can't get enough of the collections. Every look that goes down the runway I swoon over…if money were no object I'd be wearing LV everyday! It seems I am not the only one who lusts over LV. The SS15 collection, shown in Paris last October, has been one of the most coveted runway collections of the season.
Looks from the collection have made so many red carpet appearances. The short hemlines marked a 70's revival, one of the biggest trends of the season, and the dresses were perfectly executed with woven inserts - making this a super standout collection all whilst remaining wearable. Take a look at all the celebrities who have worn this collection on the red carpet.
Riley Keough / Mia Goth / Chloe Sevigny / Dianna Agron
Alicia Vikander / Chloe Sevigny / Haley Bennett / Riley Keough
Charlotte Gainsbourg / Jennifer Connelly / Chloe Moretz / Chiara Ferragni
Fan Bingbing / Liya Kebede / Rosamund Pike / Adele Exarchopoulos
Chiara Ferragni / Michelle Williams / Miranda Kerr
Catherine Deneuve / Michelle Williams / Jennifer Connelly
I love how 'effortless' this collection looks on the red carpet, there is no need to go overboard with accessories or hair and makeup. Simplicity is key, let the clothes do all the talking.

Who do you think wore the Louis Vuitton SS15 the best? I love seeing Chloe Sevigny wearing the collection, it just perfectly matches her personality and style.

Get Ready for Glastonbury…Festival Style

On the UK festival scene June means only one thing...Glastonbury! 150,000 festival goers descend on Worthy Farm for 5 days of the best fun you will ever have at a festival. I have been twice and loved every minute. From watching my favourite bands headline the Pyramid stage, to the Arcadia midnight spectacular, watching the sunset from the Park and Shangri-La shenanigans. Glastonbury has it all. Glastonbury takes place this month from the 24th-28th.
So lets talk fashion...If you want classic Glastonbury style then it is all about 2 key British heritage brands - Barbour and Hunter. I also love wearing an oversized shirt as a cover up, as it can get so hot during the day and it is almost impossible to escape the sun. I picked up a great old green army shirt from a stall at the festival itself for around £5. I wore it everyday and it was perfect stop me getting sunburn. Team this with a fedora and a cross-body bag to complete your outfit. I have put together 3 Designer/High-Street Glastonbury outfits to give you some ideas of how to 'get the look'.
1. Barbour £269, 2. Etoile Isabel Marant £225, 3. Maison Michel £345,
4. Hunter £85, 5. Stella McCartney £180, 6. Mulberry £1200

1. Topshop £38, 2. J Crew £45, 3. New Look £14.99
4. Zara £139, 5. Topshop £120, 6. Topshop £79

1. Burberry £1195, 2. Missoni £215, 3. Sophia Webster £395
4. Hunter £75, 5. Emilio Pucci £455, 6. Thierry Lasry £270

What would be your perfect festival outfit?

Graduate Fashion Week - Northumbria Uni

Graduate Fashion Week takes place every year in London, showcasing and celebrating the work of recent fashion graduates. Held at the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, this year was actually the first time I have attended the event. I went along to the Northumbria University runway show on Sunday evening. I was majorly impressed by all the collections, but there were a few in particular that really caught my eye...
Julia Barstow - 'Traces of Reality'
I loved the use of colour and textured print. A wearable collection with a sporty edge.
Lucy Doyle - 'Mujeres Chingonas'
Mexican influences and standout devore garments made for an exceptionally strong collection
Bethan Schad - 'State of Undress'
Dreamy draping in a beautiful soft colour palette. Both romantic and feminine
Selina Lunn
The influence of Gothic architecture was clear to see. The ruffles and pleats were divine! A contemporary and elegant collection in rich tonal shades
Ryan Gangan - 'New Temple, New Crusader'
Brutalist architecture formed the foundation. Strong silhouettes in electric blue and yellow.
Olivia Pink - 'The New International Traveller'
60's Courrèges vibes created a very modern and versatile collection
Jessica Bailey
Seriously fun, vibrant colours, great placements and oversized silhouettes.
The accessories got a lot of love on Instagram.

Congratulations to all the Northumbia University graduates, the runway show was amazing! Check out the Northumbria Fashion website for more portfolio pictures and details about all the collections.
