SAG Awards 2016 - Red Carpet

With award season well and truly underway, last night saw the turn of the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. Awarding those both in film and TV, this  award show acts as another indication of who will scoop the main prizes at next months Oscars. Lets take a look at who wore what on the red carpet, and who was best dressed on the night...
Eva Longoria - Julien Macdonald / Alicia Vikander - Louis Vuitton
Julianne Moore - Givenchy Spring 16 Couture / Rachel McAdams - Elie Saab
Naomi Watts - Burberry / Sarah Hyland - J Mendel
Brie Larson - Atelier Versace Spring 16 Couture / Claire Danes - Stella McCartney
Gwendoline Christie - Lanvin Spring 16 / Kiernan Shipka - Erdem
Ellie Kemper - Peter Pilotto / Maisie Williams - Ermanno Scervino
Saoirse Ronan - Michael Kors / Emilia Clarke - Dior Couture
Sophia Vergara - Vera Wang / Nicole Kidman - Gucci
Viola Davis - Zac Posen / January Jones - Schiaparelli Couture
Christina Ricci - Christopher Kane / Julianna Margulies - Antonio Berardi
Tina Fey - Stella McCartney / Sophie Turner - Carolina Herrera
Sarah Paulson - Armani Prive / Rooney Mara - Valentino

Top 3 Best Dressed
1. Brie Larson wearing Versace - This gown seemed to divide opinion, but in a sea of blue dresses on the red carpet this one appealed to me the most. It was the perfect shade of powdery blue for the actress and the detailing meant this wasn't just your average award show dress.
2. Rachel McAdams wearing Elie Saab - It was lovely to see a delicate lace gown on the red carpet, as many stars opted for solid colour blocking. It had a youthful flair to it, and Rachel's tousled hair perfectly complemented this look.
3. Sarah Paulson wearing Armani Prive - I adored this full Couture collection on the runway and thought it was a perfect choice for this award show. Black dresses are a safe option for big award shows, but I love the injection of vibrant blue and pink feathers and detailing on the bodice.

Most Surprising
1. Christina Ricci wearing Christopher Kane - The surprising thing about this look was that I can't remember a Christopher Kane dress ever being worn to such a huge Hollywood event like this before. At an award show like this, stars have their pick of the biggest brands in the world to choose from, so I found it so refreshing that Christina Ricci opted to wear this floor length lace dress from the Brit designer and LFW favourite. A HUGE yes to this look!

Most Dissapointing
1. Nicole Kidman wearing Gucci - The Gucci SS16 collection has been making it's rounds on the red carpet and in editorials since its debut at MFW back in October. Whilst I love the concept of this dress, unfortunately it just doesn't work for Nicole. Now if this had been someone like Kate Bosworth wearing this dress, I can imagine it may have made my best dressed.

Brand - Marina Hoermanseder

I discovered this brand whilst embarking on a major Instagram scrolling session(we've all done it!). I came across what was quite possible the coolest leather skirt I think I may have ever seen and instantly needed to know more about the designer.
Marina Hoermanseder debuted her first collection in 2014, after completing her studies in both Berlin and London. Combining leather and fetish elements with soft flowing fabrics, the collections display an extravagant aesthetic. Vegetable-tanned leathers in soft pastel hues create the foundation for a collection with a high level of allure. These standout pieces capture the imagination, thanks to their high level of craftsmanship and bold silhouettes. All I need now is that strap skirt!

On Trend Now: Off The Shoulder Tops

Yes it may be Winter; cold, snowing and raining outside, but it's never too early to think about Spring right? One of the hottest SS16 trends, as seen on the runway, is the 'Off The Shoulder' look. Whether it be a form fitting dress with tight sleeves (Milly and Boss) or a top with ruffles (Proenza Schouler and Cavalli), this is one trend that you will be seeing a lot of this summer. Some people don't like showing their shoulders, but with this trend it is all or nothing. The 'Off The Shoulder' look definitely adds a certain level of allure to your outfit - think of it as subtle sex appeal for summer. Loose cotton tops will be perfect for easy breezy summer days, blue or white perfect for day and black and red ideal for night. Taking inspiration directly from the runway, I have found some of the best 'Off The Shoulder' tops and dresses currently available from a variety of luxury brands. I have also added some styling inspiration from some of fashion's best street style stars, including Leandra Medine, Olivia Palermo and Christine Centenera.

Get The Look - Model Off Duty

Models own the runway and they also own the sidewalk with their signature street style looks. Many models opt for a casual off duty look with sporty vibes. Keeping things laidback, supermodels such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Lily Aldridge, Hailey Baldwin and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, are regularly seen wearing their signature skinny jeans and black leggings. Keeping the look simple, they pair with a plain tee and throw over a leather biker jacket or a bomber jacket. Yes, it's true that a supermodel figure does accentuate the look but if you love dressing for comfort then this 'model off duty' look is on point.
This look is all about classic, easy-to-wear, wardrobe staples - go to pieces that will never look dated and will look good throughout the year. For footwear, you can't go wrong with a pair of ankle boots, or alternatively an ultra cool pair of brogues will earn your look major kudos! So whether you lead a busy lifestyle and are always on the go travelling, or whether you live your life with a relaxed mindset, take a look at how these stylish girls rock the 'model off duty' look and where you can buy similar garments…
1. T Shirt - T by Alexander Wang - £65
2.  Leather Jacket - Balenciaga - £1565
3. Givenchy 'Antigona' Bag - £1465
4. Camo Shirt - Topshop - £59
5. Skinny Jeans - J Brand £220
6. Ankle Boots - Toga - £340
7. Monochrome Brogues - Christian Louboutin  - £595
8. Ray-Ban Sunglasses - £125

Critics Choice Awards - Red Carpet Review

A quick review of who wore what at the 2016 Critics Choice Awards…
Kate Beckinsale - Monique Lhuillier / Jennifer Aniston - Saint Laurent
January Jones - Altuzarra / Saoirse Ronan - Antonio Berardi SS16
Laura Haddock - Emilia Wickstead AW15 / Zoe Kravitz - Dior Couture
Rachel McAdams - Elie Saab / Kirsten Dunst - Chanel Couture
Riley Keough - Dior Couture / Rosie Huntington-Whiteley - Saint Laurent
Alicia Vikander - Mary Katrantzou / Abbey Lee Kershaw - Balmain

My Best Dressed:
Kirsten Dunst wearing Chanel Couture - I love how Kirsten has her own signature style. She perfectly imbues the 1920's spirit of this dress. I admire that she shies away from the usual figure hugging gowns and opts instead for classic 20's glamour.

Resort 16 Print Trend: Sketchy Florals

One of my favourite print trends that we saw emerging for Resort 16, was 'Sketchy Florals'. This new delicate floral trend, has soft romantic undertones and is fresh and sophisticated. Usually with romantic floral prints we see hand-painted blooms in vintage or pastel colours, however this updated take on what a romantic floral is strips back florals to their original linear form. Skeletal branches and wispy stems are kept simple in both black and white. The contrast of these two colours creates an almost 'ghostlike' appearance with barely there lines fading into the fabric. Key Designers: Hellessy, Piazza Sempione, Jason Wu and Giambattista Valli

Beauty Favourites

When it comes to 'Beauty', my routine is rather simple. Skincare is much more important to me than makeup. I prefer to have a natural flawless complexion, achieving this by maintaining a healthy diet, drinking water and using good skincare products, as opposed to spending time in front of a mirror covering up imperfections with makeup. Skincare is important to me, as I have combination skin so I need to find products that tackle a multitude of potential skin complaints.
In regards to makeup, I can honestly say that I haven't worn foundation in over 5 years, I don't contour and I don't 'eyebrow sculpt'. My everyday routine invloves a light blusher, mascara and lipstick - simple as that!
Another question I always get asked is 'What hair dye/hair straighteners do you use?' - well I have actually never dyed my hair and luckily my hair will dry straight...so all in all I have a pretty low maintenance beauty regime.
Despite the fact that I have a somewhat limited collection of beauty products, I thought I would share with you some of my essentail products which are tried and tested favourites.
 1. Eucerin Cleanser £9 / 2. Cetaphil Cleanser £8.99 / 3. Clarins Multi-Active Day Lotion £42
4. Barry M Nail Polish £2.99 / 5. My Burberry Perfume £65 / 6. Lipcote Lip Sealer £3.69
7. Benefit Blusher £23.50 / 8. NYX 'Butter' Lipstick £5.50 / 9. Eyeko Mascara £18

Pantone Colour 2016 - Fashion Inspiration

Following on from last week's post about the Pantone Colour of the Year 2016, I thought I would put together this post based on how you can inject some Rose Quartz and Serenity colour into your wardrobe. These fresh colours will be perfect for Spring and throughout the Summer. This ultra feminine amalgamation of two colours, is a sophisticated colour choice. Whilst I was putting together this fashion edit, I found myself being drawn towards soft tailoring and garments with intricate lace work and laser-cut detail. Perhaps a reflection of the pretty nature of the two colours. All the garments in this edit are available now.
1. J Crew £300 / 2. Whistles £170 / 3. Roland Mouret £1395
4. Iro £840 / 5. Reiss £245 / 6. River Island £60
7. Roksanda £775 / 8. Self-Portrait £240 / 9. Joseph £165

Golden Globes 2016 - Red Carpet Review

My first red carpet round up of 2016. The Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles last night, hosted by Ricky Gervais. Kicking off award season in style, the stars took to the red carpet wearing looks from several different catwalk collections. We saw: sequins, sheer fabric, lace and plunging necklines and  for colour we saw: rich red tones and soft nude palettes as the 2 main themes. Here is my review of who wore what on the red carpet, followed by my Top 5 Best Dressed.
Natalie Dormer - J Mendel / Jennifer Lawrence - Dior
Zendaya - Marchesa Pre Fall 16 / Rachel McAdams - Lanvin
Jennifer Lopez - Giambattista Valli / Amy Adams - Atelier Versace
Leslie Mann - Monique Lhuillier / Amber Heard - Gucci
Bryce Dallas Howard - Jenny Packham / Julianne Moore - Tom Ford
Olivia Wilde - Michael Kors / Kate Bosworth - Dolce & Gabbana
Brie Larson - Calvin Klein / Kate Hudson - Michael Kors
Rosie Huntington Whiteley - Atelier Versace / Maggie Gyllenhaal - Marc Jacobs
Amanda Peet / Rooney Mara - Alexander McQueen
Zoe Kazan - MiuMiu / Cate Blanchett - Givenchy Couture
Jane Fonda - Yves Saint Laurent Couture/ Alicia Vikander - Louis Vuitton
Saoirse Ronan - Saint Laurent / Lily James - Marchesa
Heidi Klum - Marchesa / Jaimie Alexander  - Genny
Kirsten Dunst - Valentino - Emilia Clarke  - Valentino

My Top 5 Best Dressed
1. Zendaya wearing Marchesa - This 3 tiered gown in deep bordeaux looked stunning on the young actress. Whether going for edgy or sophisticated, Zendaya pulls off every look with perfection! i HAD actually been looking at this Pre Fall gown the other day wondering who would take to the red carpet wearing it…it has 'award season' written all over it.
2. Kate Bosworth wearing Dolce & Gabbana - I adore the statuesque nature of this floor length sequin gown, with a subtle shimmer of colour.
3. Rosie Huntington Whiteley wearing Versace - One Word: Flawless!
4. Kirsten Dunst wearing Valentino - A plunging neckline was softened by the beautiful flowing fabric.
5. Olivia Wilde wearing Michael Kors  - More of the same bordeaux colour we saw Zendaya wearing, Olivia's gown was breathtaking and the dramatic makeup complimented the look.

Who was your best dressed at the 2016 Golden Globes?

Defining Runway Collections

Growing up I always knew I wanted a career in the fashion/textile industry. From an early age I was always the 'creative' child, liking nothing better than a craft kit as a Christmas or Birthday gift followed by hours of making something from whatever was inside the box. Being introduced to the work of Zandra Rhodes and Celia Birtwell whilst studying art at school, my eyes were opened to the world of print. I purchased my first Vogue magazine in 2005 (August 2005, Gemma Ward on the cover wearing Missoni...I still have my copy). I later progressed to study textiles at college and it was here that I really began to get into fashion. Deciding that I wanted to focus on print for fashion I regularly logged onto Style.com to get my fix of the catwalk, falling in love with designers such as: Matthew Williamson, Dior by John Galliano, Basso and Brooke, Emilio Pucci, Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière and Alexander McQueen.
Over the past 10 years there has been some pretty defining collections that struck a cord with me and shaped the way I look at fashion. They subsequently became the reason that I wanted a career in this industry…here are some of those collections.
I really enjoyed putting this post together, reminiscing about past collections. It has also offered a reflection on how some of my favourite brands have evolved over the years as new creative directors took the helm.
Which are your all-time favourite runway collections?

Pantone Colour of The Year 2016

For the first time, Pantone have combined two colours together to form the PANTONE Colour of the Year 2016. Rose Quartz and Serenity reflect the calmness of alleviating yourself from the stresses of modern day life. Rose Quartz provides a warmth, whilst Serenity offers tranquil reflection and peace of mind. The blending of the two colours also highlights the fluidity of gender equality in society. Colours are becoming less masculine/feminine, they are more gender neutral, and this is being reflected across several aspects of design. Here is my Rose Quartz and Serenity moodboard.

Travel Bucket List

January is always a month of reflection but more importantly looking forward to the year ahead. New Year's Resolutions have never really been my thing, so instead this year I have decided to compile a list of my top Bucket List Travels. Unless I win the lottery, I don't envisage that I will be able to visit these places anytime soon (sad face). However, I know that one day I will visit these incredible places and see the sights of the world that I have always dreamt of. Here are the places on the top of my list...how does my list compare to yours?
The Ultimate Dream: West Coast USA Road Trip
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to set off on an all American road trip adventure. Something about the West Coast in particular really appeals to me, I have already purchased a number of American travel books. Starting in LA, I would visit Salvation Mountain, Route 66, Vegas, the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, San Francisco and Big Sur.
Machu Picchu - Peru
I have always loved history, and have been fascinated with the importance of Machu Picchu since childhood. I guess this is quite an extreme holiday destination, but I love the outdoors and would love to trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The view would make all the walking worthwhile!
Mexico (including Chichen Itza)
As before, I would love to visit Chichen Itza because of it's historial importance. I have watched countless documentaries about the Mayan civilization so I would like to visit for that reason. Secondly, working in the fashion and textiles industry all of the colourful buildings would provide me with lots of inspiration.
Rio de Janeiro (and Christ the Redeemer)
Another one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, this sight looks pretty spectacular. I have heard great things about visiting Brazil as a holiday destination, including the Rio Carnival.
Vancouver
In 2008 I went on holiday to Toronto, and knew that I would like to return to Canada to explore other cities. Vancouver appeals to me because of the whale watching, parks and mountains, also making it a great Ski resort. I have never been skiing but would love to give it a go. I love the great outdoors, fresh air and walking, so Vancouver seems perfect for that.
 Marrakesh, Morocco
The vibrancy of Marrakesh really appeal to me. I would love to explore all the markets and buy a ridiculous amount of textiles, jewellery and pottery. I would also like to see all the incredible Islamic tiles in the Mosques.
