The Best of Resort 17 - Part 1

For the mainline runway collections in September and February I write lengthy reviews of the best shows from each city, however for the pre-collections I prefer to keep things short and sweet.  Instead of choosing my favourite 10 collections from each city, I want to bring you a big overview of as many of the collections as possible. So over the next month or so I will be posting a series of Resort 17 reviews on my blog, and analysing each collection by using key words to describe each one. Whilst I can't review each collection, because there are hundreds, I do look at each and every one of them online and post a huge amount of pictures daily on my Pinterest page (details below). So if you don't see a review on my blog, chances are I will have posted pictures on my other social media channels. Ok, let's get started...

On Trend Now - Mules

A new season and a new must have shoe trend - the mule! We've all seen the countless pictures of celebrities wearing the much coveted Gucci mule...and this trend shows no sign of slowing down. So why is this shoe style having a revival? Well, it is super easy to wear, casual, comfortable and offers a chic alternative to your go to pair of summer sandals. It is a fuss free shoe trend, with no ankle straps or buckles to contend with. This style works for both day and night and also lends itself perfectly to the fluidity tailoring trend which is also popular at the moment. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen championed this look a few seasons back with both their personal style and with their fashion line The Row. Every since this shoe style has continued to flourish and a wave of famous faces including: Jennifer Lawrence, Sienna Miller and Elizabeth Olsen have all got on board with the trend.
Whilst some mules do have high spindly heels, for this edit I have focused on easier to wear styles. If you are looking for a practical everyday style, which would also be great for work, then a flat option is your go to choice. If you are still looking for extra height to elevate your outfit and make your look more evening ready, then opt for a block heel. There are so many options available, whether it be leather, suede, printed or embellished, you can make this look work for your personal style. The mule has quite a relaxed feel to it, so for styling I would go for basic separates and classic tailoring. Key brand - Gucci

Brand to Know - Nadia Minkoff

Founded in 1988, Nadia Minkoff is a leather accessories and jewellery brand based in London. Inspired by travel, natural materials, colour and all things vintage, I adore these classic and sophisticated handbags.  Having travelled to both New York and Paris with work, the carryall bags and tote's would be great for long or short haul flights, holding all of your travel essentials for your journey. All the styles seen below are currently available to shop from the Nadia Minkoff website, my favourite style of which is 'The Islington' leather bucket bag - a key trend for summer! Each bag in collection is named after a well known London location such as: the 'Portobello Day Bag' and the 'Pimlico Clutch' and for an extra special finishing touch, several styles are embossed with the Nadia Minkoff logo. If you are looking for a perfect new addition to your handbag collection, and like timeless styles, then this brand could be perfect for you! Stockists include Wolf & Badger in Notting Hill. Price Range: £108 - £256

90's Revival Trend - Embroidered Patches

There's a serious 90's revival happening in fashion at the moment. With Adidas 'superstar' trainers, choker necklaces, double denim, hair scrunchies and platform shoes for sale in every high street store there is no escaping the decade made famous for Brit Pop and Friends. There is also another 90's fashion fad making a comeback...embroidered patches. Remember when you were a child and you were rewarded with embroidered badges for doing well in swimming and you would sew them onto your beach towel? Ok well this trend is not exactly the same as that, but it is the first thing that springs to mind when I look at this revived trend. I have seen so many embroidered patches on clothing, primarily on denim, that I wanted to put this edit together showing you the best pieces currently available. If you want to kick it old school and do a spot of fashion DIY, then I have also included some of the best patches which you can sew onto clothing you already own.

On Trend Now - Bomber Jackets

It is one of the biggest trends you just can't escape at the moment - the bomber jacket. Seen on the runway at Vetements S/S 16 and Saint Laurent, leather jackets have temporarily been put to one side to make way for a bomber jacket revival.  Typically styled in the same way as a leather jacket, with skinny jeans and a t-shirt, this is one trend which seems no sign of slowing down any time soon. One of this season's most coveted garments is the Saint Laurent 'palm' print bomber jacket, which has been seen on the likes of: Olivia Wilde, Alessandra Ambrosio and even Keith Richards. Injecting some major kudos, and rock 'n' roll attitude into your wardrobe, take a look at how these stars have styled their jackets with an air of nonchalance.
If you feel this look could be for you, then take a look at this edit I have put together featuring some of the best bomber jackets from both the luxury and high-street markets. Topshop has the best selection on the high street, with many traditional, printed and embroidered styles. Reversible bomber jackets are also a key look. The Topshop satin bomber with embroidered eagle and tiger motif, is black on one side and blue on the reverse. What's not to love about that? If you want to keep it traditional then I would suggest a khaki coloured bomber and for that look no further than Burberry. Which is your favourite style of bomber jacket from the selection below?
1. Burberry Brit £695 / 2. Saint Laurent £1250 / 3. Topshop £59
4. Tommy Hilfiger £650 / 5. Saint Laurent / 6. Topshop £85
7. Rag and Bone £450 / 8. Sacai £924 / 9. Kalmanovich $1575

Outfit of The Month - June

Summer is finally here! I really change my style in the summer, wearing a lot more boho inspired pieces, loose cotton tops and plenty of accessories. I also opt for more colour and embellishment. I never wear sleeveless tops, instead opting for peasant blouses with billowing sleeves. Anyone who lives in the city and commutes on the underground will know just how unbearable public transport can be during the summer, so I never want to wear any tight clothes that will be uncomfortable. Everything seen in this edit is available from Net-a-Porter.
1. Top - Talitha - £400
2. Skirt - Dodo Bar Or - £180
3. Sandals - Sam Edelman - £120
4. Bag - Chloe - £1490
5. Sunglasses - Karen Walker - £195
6. Bracelet - Katerina Makriyianni - £165
7. Scarf - Javani - £425
