On Trend Now - Tartan

Tartan proves to be the protagonist fabric of choice for Fall 17, seen widely across the runway and spawning legions of fans on the street. The likes of Bella, Gigi, Jenna Coleman and Iris Law have all been snapped wearing multiple tartan outfits. Styling of such material comes in many different guises - there's the preppy homage to the 90's (think Cher Horowitz in Clueless), then there's the nod to punk with edgy tartan pants teamed with black mesh tops, then of course there is classic British heritage with an iconic Burberry printed trench. Talking of Burberry, the fashion brand has recently revived their check print in a big way by bringing back their old school check on caps and coats. Ok so the Burberry check never really left the fashion radar, but the full head-to-toe look is now more likely to be seen on Rihanna or Adwoa Aboah rather than Daniella Westbrook circa 2002 (*gasps in horror). Perhaps the fashion brand was picking up on the love of all things 90's in fashion at the moment and sought to once again make a bold sartorial statement with their iconic plaid. Aside from Burberry, other fashion houses who have embraced the tartan look for Fall include Tommy Hilfiger, Balenciaga and Victoria Beckham. And finally, we couldn't talk tartan without mentioning the queen or tartan herself, Dame Vivienne Westwood who has championed this look for decades.
Whilst at first glance, tartan can seem a daring look to opt for it need not be so scary. Of course if making a statement is your thing, then go all out with a full on tartan look - perhaps even a tartan suit from the likes of Victoria Beckham or Junya Watanabe. However, if you want something a little more wearable for everyday then a mini skirt can be a great option. If you want MAJOR nods to Scottish heritage then opt for a tartan mini skirt, Miu Miu have a great style this season, but if this is too much for your personal style then a classic A-line mini is your best bet. Colour can also be key to nailing this look in your preferred way. If you want the traditional look then for sure go for red/black tartan, but for something more modern go for white, teal or purple - you are still achieving the trend-driven look for Fall but the pieces will be more likely to stand the test of time in your wardrobe over the coming months and future seasons. Here is my pick of the best luxury and highstreet tartan pieces.

Outfit of The Month - November

PVC trench coats are everywhere this season and this black one from Philosophy, complete with leopard print collar, is giving me all the right vibes for Autumn. A classic grey marl polo neck and straight leg jeans are a great way to keep your outfit simple yet remain on trend this season. Completing this look are some killer accessories. Team with a pair of white leather ankle boots, with tortoiseshell heel, for the ultimate understated 'look at me' fashion street style moment. An iconic Gucci tote bag ties in perfectly with the rest of the look and adds a pop of colour to the largely monochrome outfit. This full outfit is available to shop now on Net-a-Porter.

SS18 Trend Report - Spray Paint

Once again the art world is proving to be a source of inspiration for SS18, with both Calvin Klein and MSGM showcasing 'spray paint' inspired graphics for their latest Spring/Summer offerings. Calvin Klein collaborated with the American artist Sterling Ruby, who created backdrops for the runway space and whose work inspired the prints seen on multiple garments. The print in question is one which would commonly be described a 'non-print' print - one which is hard to define. Yet despite the inconceivable nature of such a print, the array of colours used really brings the print to life. Whilst many prints can be so precisely executed, what really speaks to me about this particular print trend is the high level of expression - it is free from constraints and I love that.

On Trend Now - Sock Boots

Ok, so when I first saw sock boots on the runway I can't say that I was overly keen. If you've been following my blog for a while then you will know that ankle boots are my thing... I mean I may have mentioned it once or twice before, but this whole 'sock boot' thing just wasn't doing it for me. Seen on the runway at Vetements and Balenciaga, as well as others, these extremely pointed toe boots seemed a little too dramatic for my liking. But fast forward a few months and its fair to say i'm a convert... so what changed? I'm a mini skirt kinda gal, opting to style such mini's with a cool pair of flat ankle boot to tone down my look if you know what I mean. Something about these sock boots such screamed Pretty Woman vibes to me, and i can't say that has ever been a look i've wished to emulate! However, the more and more I kept seeing these boots (seriously there were EVERYWHERE) I began to warm to them. Seeing the likes of Kendall Jenner and Roberta Benteler teaming them them with jeans and a basic tee showed me that less really can be more - just let the statement boots do the talking! Surprisingly, a kitten heel pair can actually offer comfort - who would have thought? Whilst black may be the safest and most wearable colour, if you want serious sass then you have to opt for neon pink or lime green - it's what Demna Gvasalia would want! I'm currently digging teaming a pair with a Prince of Wales check skirt and black polo neck. So if you are looking to shop this major 2017 footwear trend then it is your lucky day as I have rounded up the best styles from both the highstreet and luxury markets...

SS18 Trend Report - Mondrian

Has there ever been a colour palette that packed more of a punch than this? Piet Mondrian proving to be all kinds of popular on the runway for SS18, references to the Dutch artist were seen at: Ralph Lauren, Aquilano.Rimondi and Christian Dior - all adding a large dose of abstract art to their latest collections. Colour blocking is nothing new, but in primary colours it has serious impact. Block colour separates work well for an all out 'look at me' look, whilst stripes with injections of black make for a slightly softer, yet still edgy, look.
